Cultural Studies : Workshop by 'Dr. Kalyani Vallath'...

Here I'm going to share my review about the Workshop which was planned by our HOD [Department of English, MKBU.] The whole workshop was about Cultural studies. The chief guest was 'Dr. Kalyani Vallath' who came from Kerala.

Let me introduce first Dr. Kalyani Vallath :-


Dr. Kalyani Vallath is an educational entrepreneur, editor and teacher of English literature from India. Vallath compiled A Contemporary Encyclopedia of British Literature and runs Total English Solutions in Thiruvananthapuram to help teach English to people living in rural parts of India.

As an educational entrepreneur, Dr Kalyani Vallath has moulded the careers of hundreds of young professors in India and has contributed significantly to English literature studies at graduate and postgraduate levels. It is with an unconventional, innovative and democratic perspective that she has built up an interdisciplinary and learner-centered educational methodology and a career of her own.

About Workshop of Cultural studies :- 

As I mentioned above that Kalyani mam came on 27th December , 2019. She dealt with the special subject Cultural studies. She talked various things relevant to this perticular subject.

◆  About Cultural studies:- 

In the very beginning of the session at morning , she talked about the emerged of Cultural studies.

  She told that...Cultural studies emerged from the Marxism.

◆ An introduction to Cultural studies :-

Then further she told about this , the details are given below :-

1. Interdisciplinary study.
2. How culture relates to the larger society.
3. Political dynamics of mass media & everyday cultural practices.
4. How culture transforms individual experiences social realities & power relations.
5. Draws on social theory, philosophy, history, linguistic, media.

¶ Then she told that the people who are living in India & also in the entire world are diverse & cultural studies connected with diversity.

¶ Then she gave the special reference of the American feminist writer, educator, artist & activist ... 'Kate Millett'

She gave the further information...that

" Cultural studies is the political significance."

I like her this idea and thought very much that how Culture shape the individual person. When she told that....

" Cultural studies transform the individual experiences & Travel also transform us."

● According to this above line she shared her person experience that....

When she was travelled to the various places she had many experiences with variety of people and she came to know that all cultures are diverse . She have many friends in diverse community and all community are respect her.

  She gave the example that ...when its the time of thinking about Pakistan all indians think or the crystal clear images indians show is that Terrorist or Terrorism. But not all pakistani are terrorist they also have some respect towards India. She told that her pakistani friend who are live in there , they all are very much well mannered as well as sophisticated , they respect Indians.

Conclusion :-



In last I just want to say that the session was very much helpful to me as well as all Literature students. It was fruitful session. The whole day she taught us very enthusiastically. I hope we will have chance to listen you in future .
