" The Metaphysical poetry"

Department of English, MKBU has organized a guest lectures for students. We have two guest from Sardar Patel University, Dr.R K Mandaliya Sir and Dr.Javed Hussain Khan Sir. Both are excellent in their subjects. Dr.R K Mandaliya Sir has come to teach Metaphysical poetry to semester 1's students. Javed Sir  has come to teach ELT to semester 3's students. But here the main ambition of both of them is to interact with students. So, the full session with him is full of vivacity.
In semester 1 Dr. R K Mandaliya Sir taught " The Metaphysical poetry". So, Here I'm going to describe what sir has taught us like...



  • What is the Metaphysical poetry ?
  • The characteristics of the Metaphysical poetry.
  • Which is the Metaphysical poets & also their work.
Firstly I want to share my view that....
    
  •  What is the Metaphysical poetry?
Then simply I clarify the answer that, the poets who wrote poetry an ordinary & mechanical languages that all poems considered as a Metaphysical Poetry."
Meanwhile the Renaissance period, all poets wrote poetry on Love, Nature, Death & so on...,but they all wrote in the same manner. 
So coming towards the Puritan Age, poets thinks that we wrote something unique from that all. 


The word " Metaphysical" first time used by critic  Dr. Samuel Johnson in the "lives of poet."


The Metaphysical poets are given below :-


John Donne is the pioneer of this Metaphysical Poetry.


The Metaphysical characteristics are given below:-



In Semester-1, we have going to study John Donne 's poems like :

  1. " The Flea"
  2. Holy Sonnet : 10 " Death be not proud"
  3. Song " Sweetest Love, I do not go."
  4. Elegy 10 : " The Dream".
  5. The Ecstasy.            
But I want to explain his other poem which is not in our syllabus.
